WASHINGTON, Aug 7 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- US Vice President Kamala Harris and her newly picked running mate Minnesota Governor Tim Walz held their first rally in the battleground state of Philadelphia on Tuesday evening, Anadolu Agency (AA) reported.

The event marked Harris's first public appearance since the Democratic Party confirmed her as its official presidential nominee through a virtual roll call, just hours after she announced Walz as her choice for vice president.

“Today, I am proud to declare that I am officially the Democratic nominee for president of the United States,” she said while standing next to Walz. “So now we have some work to do. We have to move to the general election and win that.”

While introducing Walz, Harris said he is “the kind of person who makes people feel like they belong and then inspires them to dream big.”

“That’s the kind of vice president he will be. And that’s the kind of vice president America deserves,” she added.

“Thank you for bringing back the joy,” Walz said to Harris after she introduced the 60-year-old to the crowd.

“We’ve got 91 days,” he said. “My God, that’s easy. We’ll sleep when we’re dead.”
