KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- British High Commissioner to Malaysia Ailsa Terry has been appointed as the United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister’s Private Secretary for Foreign Affairs, the High Commission here announced Thursday.

Terry will officially assume her new duties at No 10 Downing Street early next month, the High Commission said in statement.

In her new role, Terry will advise Prime Minister Keir Starmer on foreign policy issues and collaborate closely with the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office in London.

This marks the first time that a British High Commissioner to Malaysia has been nominated as the Private Secretary to the Prime Minister.

“This is a huge privilege,” said Terry on her new appointment.

“Prime Minister Keir Starmer has set out ambitious plans for the country. I am honoured to be given this opportunity to serve in the Prime Minister’s Office,” she said.

Reflecting on her stint in Malaysia since August last year, Terry said she and her team have significantly strengthened the UK-Malaysia partnership across various sectors including trade, technology, education, climate, defence and security.

“I have visited many states and my family and I have made so many friends around Malaysia. We will miss the people, sights, sounds, smells and flavours of Malaysia,” she added.

David Wallace, who has been the Deputy High Commissioner since 2022, will step in as Charge d'Affaires starting Aug 29 to ensure the continuity of the High Commission's work during the transition.
