HARARE, Aug 9 (Bernama-New Ziana) -- Zimbabwe and Malaysia are set to sign a cooperation agreement in broadcasting, a Cabinet Minister has said.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere said this while briefing the media on the outcome of deliberations of the Cabinet this week.

Broadcasting as an industry and practice is an integral mechanism for the promotion of freedom of expression and access to information by the public.

The broadcasting industry is a major employer in Zimbabwe as in most other countries, and also plays a critical role in developing artistic talent and showcasing a nation's culture and traditions to the world.

New Ziana, Zimbabwe’s news agency, reported Muswere as saying that the Cabinet had approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Zimbabwe and Malaysia on cooperation in broadcasting.

The MoU seeks to develop cooperation in media and broadcasting in terms of radio and television programs between the two countries.

It provides for the exchange of news and news materials, radio and television programmes, cooperation in the field of radio and television productions, broadcasting technology, and sharing of best practices and experiences.

The cooperation will also include exchange visits between officials and experts in the areas that the two parties mutually identify.
