FOREIGN MINISTRY CLOSELY MONITORS SITUATION AFTER QUAKE IN SYRIA, NO MALAYSIANS AFFECTED

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- The Foreign Ministry has confirmed that according to the latest report, no Malaysians are reported to have been affected by the 4.8 magnitude earthquake that struck near Hama, Syria, on Monday night. 

In a statement on Tuesday, the ministry said it is closely monitoring the situation, adding that the Embassy of Malaysia in Beirut and the Honorary Consul of Malaysia in Syria, are actively working with local authorities to gather information and assess the situation. 

“Malaysians in the affected areas are advised to stay vigilant and adhere to announcements by local authorities,” read the statement.

The ministry also urged those who have not yet registered their whereabouts to do so immediately at https://ekonsular.kln.gov.my.

Malaysians who require consular assistance are advised to contact the Honorary Consul of Malaysia in Syria, who can be reached at the phone number +963 93324 5555 or via email at samir@honconsuladvisor.my.
