PERKESO REHAB CENTRE IN IPOH CAN EMPOWER RTW PROGRAMME

16/08/2024 11:43 AM

IPOH, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- The Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) expects more than 3,000 patients to receive holistic treatment annually at the National Neuro-Robotic and Cybernics Rehabilitation Centre in Meru Raya here.

Perkeso Rehabilitation Centre executive director Datuk Dr Hafez Hussain said the facility would enhance the effectiveness of the Perkeso Return To Work (RTW) programme, which has helped over 63,241 individuals return to work since 2017.

He said the rehabilitation centre offers services to eligible contributors under several Perkeso schemes, including the Employment Injury Scheme, Invalidity Pensions, Employment Insurance Scheme, Domestic Accident Protection Benefits and Invalidity Protection Benefits for housewives.

“The treatment provided focuses on various conditions, including musculoskeletal and neurology-related injuries like stroke and brain damage,” he said.

He said this at the Perkeso Rehabilitation Centre Decade Programme at a hotel here which was also attended by over 100 participants from government agencies, corporate firms, non-governmental organisations (NGO) and employer representatives from Perak.

On Aug 7, Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong said the RM654 million rehabilitation centre, built on a 15.57-hectare piece of land, had reached 63.05 per cent completion and expected to be fully completed by May 1, 2025.

Six similar facilities are already operating in Melaka, Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam, Terengganu and Johor.

Meanwhile, Hafez said that although priority would be given to Perkeso contributors, the facilities at the rehabilitation centres are also accessible to the public on a self-payment basis.

“Those keen to know more about the rehabilitation services packages available can contact the Perkeso Rehabilitation Centre at 06-2354000 or visit the website at www.rehabmalaysia.com,” he said.

Elaborating on the rehabilitation centre, he said the facilities, which are recognised as the biggest in Southeast Asia, would focus on neuro-robotic and Cybernics services as well as conventional and traditional rehabilitation treatments.

He said the rehabilitation centre would also provide mental rehabilitation, in addition to assisting patients to adjust to their circumstances.

“For those unable to return to work, the rehabilitation will enable them to regain the capablity to manage daily activities, thus reduce their reliance on family members,” he said.
