SUKMA 2024: SARAWAK HOPE TO SERVE UP TWO TENNIS GOLDS

16/08/2024 03:57 PM

KUCHING, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- Of the six gold medals on offer in tennis, 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) hosts Sarawak are setting their sights on clinching at least two of them.

In fact, Sarawak head coach Arvin Tabil Jurao already knows where those two golds are going to come from: women’s doubles and mixed team events.

His confidence stems from the fact that the Sarawak tennis team had undergone an intensive two-week training stint in South Korea from July 21-Aug 3 as part of their preparations for the biennial Games.

“We’ve kept the training momentum going after returning home. So, our preparation has been really good. There is a very good chance that we can get one or two golds.

“We see Perak, Federal Territories and Selangor as our biggest threats,” he told reporters after the launch of the tennis event for SUKMA 2024 at the Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) today.

The tennis competition began today with the mixed team event.

SUKMA 2024, held across nine divisions in Sarawak, features 37 sports with 488 events, including 236 men’s events, 217 women’s events and 35 mixed events.

Introduced in 1986, Sarawak has hosted SUKMA twice before, in 1990 and 2016.
