SUKMA SQUASH: SARAWAK SHINE ON HOME TURF, CLINCH MIXED DOUBLES GOLD, BRONZE

KUCHING, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- Sarawak’s squash team capitalised on home-court advantage, capturing gold and bronze in the mixed doubles event at the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA).

In the final today at the Sarawak Squash Centre, Nathalie Sim Shu Eng and Harth Danial Jefri battled through a tough tie to overcome Melaka duo, Thanusaa Uthrian and Andrik Lim Kai Shan.

The hosts started on the front foot, taking the first set 11-9. Melaka fought back to level the match with an 11-8 win in the second set.

In the decisive final set, Harith and Nathalie dug deep to secure a 11-9 victory, successfully defending their mixed doubles gold from the 2022 SUKMA edition.

Sarawak’s bronze came through mixed doubles pair, Eugenia David and Altamis Aqhar Sallam A Sufian, who defeated Sabah’s Tristan Andreas Muyou Angkaus and Doyce Ye San Lee 11-6, 10-11 and 11-6.

Squash offers six gold medals in this edition of the Games.
