23/08/2024 12:39 PM

SIBU, Aug 23 (Bernama) — Sarawak’s women’s volleyball team lived up to expectations, taking the gold medal at the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) with a 3-1 win over Selangor in the final held at the Rejang Park Volleyball Court here today.

Under the guidance of coach Sanong Kulchim, Sarawak dominated the match with a standout performance by spiker Joan Yu Yian, securing the first set 25-15.

The second set saw Selangor, coached by Goh Tzer Nam, attempt a comeback, but Sarawak’s superior play prevailed, winning 25-16.

Selangor improved their game in the third set, taking a set with a 25-19 victory.

Sarawak’s gold, however, was not to be denied, and they went on to wrap things up by taking the match-winning set 25-18.

In the bronze medal match yesterday, Federal Territories (FT) defeated defending champions Johor 3-1.

Met by reporters later, Sanong said the gold-winning feat was from lots of hard work in training.

He said the vociferous local support also pushed the players even harder to ensure a win for the home team.
