KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug 27 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu government will reward the state’s athletes who won medals at the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA XXI) in Sarawak.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the state government will however, see the full performance report of state athletes at the biennial games first.

“Incentives are definitely there, (but) just wait for the full report. However, what is most important is to implement a planned strategy so that in two years we will improve our situation, (which) and of course our target is to become the overall champion,” he said.

Asked if incentives will be forthcoming for the female divers (who defied the Muslim dress code) who were sent to the games without going through the state government, Ahmad Samsuri said they will see a full report on the matter first before making a decision.

He said this after a cleanup programme at the Batu Buruk Beach together with the Yang Dipertuan Muda Terengganu Tengku Muhammad Ismail Sultan Mizan here today.

At the Sarawak SUKMA, Terengganu ranked fifth in the overall medal tally after winning a total of 124 medals comprising 41 gold, 36 silver and 47 bronze medals.
