KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 1 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi congratulated national mixed doubles pair, Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, for securing the 2024 Korea Open title today.

He hailed the victory as a special gift to Malaysia in celebration of National Day, adding that it serves as a powerful motivator and a promising start for future successes.

“This achievement reflects their strong fighting spirit and dedication.

“I will continue to wish them every success in their future endeavours. Keep striving and continue making our nation proud!,” he said in a Facebook post today.

This victory marks Tang Jie and Ee Wei’s first title at a Super 500 event, following their runner-up finishes at the 2024 Thailand Masters (Super 300) and the 2024 Swiss Open (Super 300).

However, in today’s final at Mokpo Indoor Stadium in Seoul, the world’s ninth-ranked duo had to fight hard to secure a 17-21, 21-13, 21-13 win against China’s Guo Xin Wa and Li Qian.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh also extended her congratulations to the pair through a Facebook post, sharing a photo of Tang Jie and Ee Wei along with the hashtag #KitaSemuaTeamMAS.

“Congratulations Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei for winning the Korea Open 2024,” she said.

Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz also celebrated the mixed doubles pair’s victory by sharing a post from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) on his Facebook page.

“After three finals, they’ve finally won! Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, Korea Open Mixed Doubles Champions,” he said.
