MALAYSIANS IN SWEDEN CELEBRATE THE 67TH NATIONAL DAY

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 1 (Bernama) -- Malaysians in Sweden gathered to celebrate the 67th National Day and attended the “Merdeka Bazaar 2024” event held at the Malaysian Embassy in Stockholm on Saturday (31 August).

In a statement, the Malaysian Embassy stated that the annual programme, which is a focal event for the Malaysian community, was attended by more than 250 guests, including members of the diplomatic corps, students, and the general public in Sweden.

The Charge d'Affaires at the Malaysian Embassy, Theventhiran Arumugam, in his speech, recalled the history of the nation's formation and emphasised the importance of commemorating the Independence Day, which is the result of the sacrifices made by the nation's fighters for the freedom that we enjoy today.

He also shared the Prime Minister's aspirations and the theme of Malaysia MADANI: Jiwa Merdeka, and urged all Malaysians in Sweden to continue upholding unity and harmony for the development and success of our beloved country.

The President of Sweden-Malaysia Association, Zainal Fitri Abu Khair, expressed his appreciation to the Malaysian government and the Malaysian Embassy in Stockholm for such initiatives, which helps to foster unity and strengthen the bond among Malaysians in Sweden.

“Congratulations and thank you to the Government and the Embassy. These programmes unite Malaysians in Sweden and create a meaningful National Day celebration, especially for our children here,” he said.

The celebration continued with various cultural performances, such as the Joget Pahang (a traditional dance from the state of Pahang), Lion Dance, Bharatanatyam (a classical Indian dance), and Sumazau Dance.

Guests were also treated to various Malaysian delicacies such as Nasi Lemak, Chicken Satay, Roti Jala, Sarawak Laksa, Kuih Seri Muka, and many more.

To further enliven the National Day celebration, a “Batik” painting session was also held in an effort to promote the uniqueness of the country’s art to attending guests.
