PUTRAJAYA, Sept 5 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is targeting at least three medals at the WorldSkills Competition 2024 (WSC 2024), from Sept 10 to 16, in Lyon, France.
Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad said Malaysia will be represented by 15 skilled youths who were selected to carry the country's name to a high level on the world stage in the field of technical and vocational education and training (TVET).
“It is my hope and that of all Malaysians that these national participants will display their best skills to win the first gold medal for the country,” he said in a statement today.
The 15 skilled youths, consisting of students from public skills training institutions and higher education institutions nationwide, will compete in 14 skilled areas out of the 62 skilled areas contested.
He said Malaysia was represented by outstanding participants in the national and regional competitions, namely the WorldSkills Malaysia Youth Competition (WSMB) 2023, WorldSkills ASEAN Singapore 2023 and WorldSkills Asia Abu Dhabi 2023.
“Once again, I would like to say well done and congratulations to the participants who have been selected to represent the country at the WSC Lyon 2024.
"Truly all of you are national heroes and heroines with excellent skills who are able to raise the name of Malaysia on the world stage," he added
Previously, Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong said the government was providing a special cash incentive of RM40,000 for a gold medal win at the WSC Lyon 2024 this month.
He said the special incentive was a sign of support amd encouragement to pursue excellent success at the WSC 2024.
According to him, a silver medalist will receive a reward of RM20,000, while the bronze medalist will receive RM10,000.
