SINGAPORE

 

1. PASSENGERS ON SIA FLIGHT STUCK ON TARMAC AT HONG KONG AIRPORT FOR FOUR HOURS DUE TO TECHNICAL FAULT -- THE STRAITS TIMES

Passengers on board a Singapore Airlines flight were stuck in the plane for about four hours on the tarmac of a Hong Kong airport on Sept 10 after it was grounded because of a technical issue.

1. UNDP SUPPORTS KINGDOM’S REFORESTATION PLANS -- KHMER TIMES

The United Nations Development Programme is supporting Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment in its reforestation campaign that aims to increase forest cover to 60 percent by 2050. Cambodia is concentrating on reforestation and forest restoration to curb the effects of climate change.

 

2. WORLD BANKS STEPS IN TO BOOST ECOTOURISM -- KHMER TIMES

The Ministry of Environment and the World Bank are working to improve Cambodia’s sustainable landscape and ecotourism to generate income for local communities. Both parties will target on clean air, land and water by introduction of “zero waste” strategies within the World Bank financing framework.

 

VIETNAM

 

1. VIETNAM SUPPORTS UN PEACEKEEPING OPERATIONS -- VIETNAMPLUS

Vietnam fully supports UN peacekeeping operations to be more effective and adaptive, with clear  mandate to maintain peace and security. Vietnam called for measures to prevent hostile acts against peacekeeping forces with better interactions and building trust with local authorities and communities.

 

2. VIETNAM, CUBA SIGN LEGAL COLLABORATION PACT -- VIETNAMPLUS

The Vietnam Bar Federation and the Organization of Cuban Law Firms signed an agreement to expand cooperation in the legal field — by increasing information exchange and professional skills through seminars, workshops and training, which are expected to be held in the near future for lawyers.

 

MYANMAR

 

1.       DIRECTORATE BLACKLIST 1,000 COMPANIES -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

The Directorate of Investment and Company Administration suspended 1,000 companies in August for failing to file annual returns via the online registry system. If the companies failed to file update their status within six months of suspension, the registrar will strike its name off the register.

 

2.   MYANMAR JOINS ASEAN-DHAKA COMMITTEE MEETING -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

Myanmar participated in the 60th Heads of Mission Meeting of the ASEAN-Dhaka Committee in Bangladesh, where the ASEAN Family Day and tree-planting initiatives,  and ways to enhance relations with the Bangladesh, plus regional and internal development topics were discussed.

 

THAILAND

 

1. SAI RIVER BURSTS BANKS TO FLOOD CHIANG RAI’S MAE SAI DISTRICT -- THE NATION

Two days of heavy rain apparently under the influence of Tropical Depression Yagi caused the Sai River to burst its banks and flood several villages in Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district on Tuesday morning.

 

2. EIGHT PLEAD NOT GUILTY IN RED BULL SCION CASE FIASCO -- BANGKOK POST

The Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases has scheduled a seven-month trial period for the alleged mishandling of the 2012 fatal hit-and-run case involving Red Bull scion Vorayuth “Boss” Yoovidhya.
