FORMER ENVOY TO MALAYSIA AMNA BALOCH APPOINTED PAKISTAN'S NEW FOREIGN SECRETARY

NEW DELHI, Sept 11 (Bernama) -- Pakistan's former high commissioner to Malaysia, Amna Baloch, has officially assumed the role of the country's new foreign secretary.

Amna, 58, is the 33rd Pakistan foreign secretary and only the second woman to hold the crucial foreign service post.

She succeeded Syrus Sajjad Qazi, who retired from the diplomatic service and as foreign secretary on Tuesday.

Amna was posted as high commissioner to Malaysia from 2019 to 2023, before moving to Brussels as the ambassador to Belgium and the European Union.

She served as Pakistan's consul general in China's Chengdu between 2014 and 2017.

Amna holds a master's degree in history and joined the foreign service in 1991.
