KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 (Bernama) -- Top national women's badminton doubles pair, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah cruised into the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Open 2024 with a commanding performance against local contenders Lui Lok Lok and Tsang Hiu Yan in Kowloon today.

In the match held at the Hong Kong Coliseum, the third-seeded pair showcased their dominance, dispatching their opponents 21-16, 21-14 in just 30 minutes.

Pearly and Thinaah will face the eighth-seeded Indonesian pair, Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma-Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi, in the quarter-finals tomorrow.

In contrast, fast-rising men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani saw their run cut short as they were defeated by Indonesia's Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Daniel Marthin 21-16, 19-21, 13-21.

Meanwhile, national mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, seeded fourth in the tournament, checked into the quarter-finals after their Hong Kong opponents, Lee Chun Hei Reginald-Ng Tsz Yau, withdrew from the match at 21-4, 4-1.

Next up for Tang Jie-Ee Wei in the last eight will be a clash with China's Guo Xin Wa-Chen Fang Hui.

Another Malaysian mixed doubles pair, Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin, also secured their spot in the quarter-finals after an impressive straight-sets victory over Taiwan’s Lin Bin-Wen and Lin Chih Chun, 21-14, 21-15.

However, the world No 40 duo faces a tough test as they are set to take on the tournament’s top-seeded home favourites, Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping.
