PASIR MAS, Sept 13 (Bernama) -- The grandson of former UMNO information chief Tan Sri Hussein Ahmad, who passed away this morning, has promised to continue his grandfather’s efforts to uplift the lives of farmers and paddy growers, particularly in Kelantan.

Mohamad Radzuan Rosli, 34, said his grandfather, affectionately known as ‘Hussein Serama,’ had advised him to do his best to tackle the problems and challenges faced by farmers, especially during droughts.

“My grandfather was the former Kemubu Agricultural Development Authority (KADA) chairman for 13 years from 1990 to 2003. He was known for being a hard worker, especially in ensuring that the irrigation system for paddy growers functioned smoothly.

“He had left the political arena and gave up all the positions he held after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease over 10 years ago, but his memory remained sharp, especially concerning agriculture,” he told reporters in Kampung Lemal, here today.

Hussein died at his home near Kampung Lemal due to old age at 7 am. He was 90.

His remains were laid to rest at 2.30 pm after Friday prayer at the Kubur Besar Bandar Pasir Mas Muslim cemetery. Nearly 100 family and friends attended the funeral.

Meanwhile, Hussein’s former colleague, Datuk Abdullah Mat Yasim, said his passing was a huge loss, especially for UMNO.

Abdullah said he was appointed as his special officer when Hussein served as the Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister from 1987 to 1990, adding that although Hussein was strict, he was also helpful and the go-to person for many people.

Hussein left six children, over 30 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar from 1978 to 1982 and UMNO Information Chief for 14 years from 1982 to 1999.
