1. INDONESIA 'LIGHT YEARS' FROM EVEN DEVELOPMENT -- THE JAKARTA POST

Indonesia has seen little to no progress in shifting the focus of development away from Java over the past decade, notwithstanding the promise of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo to even out economic activity across the country.

 

2. INDONESIA’S RESOURCE NATIONALISM TO EXTEND TO COFFEE, SEAWEED -- JAKARTA GLOBE

Indonesia’s outgoing leader Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said Tuesday that Indonesia's resource nationalism will extend outside of the mining sector as the country mulls banning exports of unprocessed agricultural products like coffee and cocoa. Resource nationalism has been at the core of Jokowi’s economic policies over the past years.

1. LAOS-SOUTH KOREA EXPLORE JOB OPPORTUNITIES -- VIENTIANE TIMES 

The “Policy Seminar on Lao Workers Dispatched to Korea” discussed improving the working environment for Lao workers in Korea and making policy improvements. The event was jointly organised by the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare and Korea University’s Graduate School of Policy.

 

2. LAOS-THAILAND INK SIX COOPERATION PACTS -- VIENTIANE TIMES 

The two neighbours signed six cooperation agreements. Water resources management, civil service development, technical assistance, cooperation in rail freight transport; and Letter of Intent to reinforce the Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge to boast Vientiane and Khon Kaen province friendship.

 

VIETNAM 

 

1. SANOFI PHARMA TO PRODUCE VACCINES IN VIETNAM -- VIETNAMPLUS

Paris-based Sanofi Pharmaceutical Group and Vietnam Vaccine Joint Stock Company agreed to produce Sanofi vaccines in Vietnam. This is the first time a Vietnamese private enterprise has partnered in vaccine production, which demonstrates the country’s capabilities in medical research and development. 

 

2. VIETNAM-PHILIPPINES DISCUSS MARITIME COOPERATION -- VIETNAM NEWS 

Both ASEAN members agreed to work closely on maritime issues, strengthen maritime cooperation and promote an effective Code of Conduct by international law — including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. The Philippines assured it would treat arrested fishermen humanely.
