BURSA MALAYSIA STAYS HIGHER AT MIDAFTERNOON

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia stayed higher at midafternoon with bargain hunting in select heavyweight stocks and mild selling in lower liners and smaller caps. 

At 3.01 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) expanded 9.72 points to 1,644.63 against Wednesday’s close of 1,634.91.

The benchmark index had opened 4.84 points firmer at 1,639.75.

Across the broader market, gainers led decliners 475 to 435, with 507 counters unchanged, 1,024 untraded and 22 suspended. 

Turnover reached 1.76 billion units, valued at RM1.19 billion.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank put on eight sen to RM10.58, CIMB rose 11 sen to RM8.14, IHH Healthcare bounced seven sen to RM7.29, Hong Leong widened two sen to RM21.12, while Tenaga Nasional shed two sen to RM14.40. 

As for the active counters, Pertama Digital edged up six sen to 30.5 sen, Leong Hup perked up half-a-sen to 74 sen, MY E.G picked up two sen to 92.5 sen, Bina Puri expanded 1.5 sen to 37 sen, while KHPT was unchanged at 20.5 sen. 

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index was 58.11 points higher at 12,328.62, the FBM Emas Shariah Index strengthened by 46.30 points to 12,212.93 and the FBMT 100 Index added 58.72 points to 12,027.56.

The FBM 70 Index grew 39.55 points to 17,545.22, while the FBM ACE Index slipped 13.37 points to 5,146.65.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index gained by 99.93 points to 19,345.62, the Plantation Index was up 28.24 points to 7,200.41, Industrial Products and Services Index firmed by 0.72 of-a-point to 176.0 but the Energy Index slid 2.02 points to 882.04.
