NUMBER OF FLOOD VICTIMS IN KEDAH, PERLIS CONTINUES TO DECLINE TONIGHT

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- The number of flood victims in Kedah and Perlis has decreased as of tonight compared to this evening, whereas the number of residents affected by the disaster in Perak and Johor remains unchanged.

In KEDAH, the number of victims has decreased to 3,051 people involving 938 families as of 8 pm today compared to 3,172 people from 986 families as of 4 pm,

State Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) deputy director Major (PA) Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain said all the victims are being housed at 19 temporary relief centres (PPS) across four districts.

“The Kota Setar district recorded the highest number of victims at 1,662 people from 497 families, all taking shelter at nine relief centres, followed by Pendang  (510 people from 139 families) in two PPS,” he said in a statement.

“Meanwhile, in the Pokok Sena district, there are 464 individuals from 161 families who are being housed in five PPS, whereas in Kubang Pasu there are 415 people from 141 families in three PPS."

In PERLIS, the number of victim recorded has decreased to 140 people as of 8 pm today, compared to 146 victims this evening, with two PPS still in operation to house the said flood evacuees.

Perlis APM director Lt Kol (PA) Mohd Izaimi Md Daud said the relief centres still operating are at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sena, Kangar which is housing 135 victims, whereas five victims are seeking shelter in PPS SK Arau, Arau.

"Those who have not yet been able to return to their homes include flood victims from Kampung Tok Kandang and Kampung Bakau in Kangar, as well as Kampung Banat and Kampung Behor Gelam in Arau," he said in a statement.

In PERAK, the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that the number of flood evacuees tonight remains at 136 people from 40 families taking shelter in two PPS in Kerian.

"A total of 71 people from 20 families are still being housed at PPS SK Changkat Lobak, while the PPS SK Parit Haji Aman, Bagan Serai is housing 65 people from 20 families."

"All flood victims are taking shelter in the two PPS since about a week ago,” said the secretariat.

In JOHOR, the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) chairman Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani said the number of victims remains at 17 people from three families as of 8 pm today, with all victims still housed at PPS SK Seri Bunut in Batu Pahat.

"Three areas affected by the flood disaster include Kampung Talang Bunut, Kampung Olak Batu and Kampung Parit Nipah Laut in Batu Pahat," he said in a statement.
