KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Basketball Association (MABA), has strongly recommended that the country’s legendary basketball figure, Datuk Yeoh Choo Hock, to be inducted into the FIBA (The International Basketball Federation) Basketball Hall of Fame.

According to a statement today, the recommendation for the 81-year-old was officially submitted via a formal application to FIBA from MABA president Datuk Seri Lee Tian Hock.

With his immense accomplishments in basketball, Tian Hock believed that Choo Hock is fully deserving of a place in the FIBA Basketball Hall of Fame, where he will continue to inspire future generations to engage with and develop the sport.

“He is not only a symbol of Malaysian basketball but also a visionary leader who has made significant contributions to international basketball.

“Induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame would be the highest recognition of Datuk Yeoh’s selfless dedication and a fitting tribute to his remarkable legacy,” he said.

The former MABA secretary-general’s outstanding achievements include leading Malaysia’s national basketball team to a gold medal at the 1989 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games and promoting international basketball by organising major tournaments such as the Women's Basketball World Championship in Malaysia.

His contribution to the sport extends globally, having served as a FIBA Commissioner at four Olympic Games and several FIBA World Championships.
