ASSOCIATION EYES OPPORTUNITIES TO DEBUT DODGEBALL AS DEMO SPORT AT SUKMA 2026

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Association of Dodgeball (MAD) aims to capture opportunities to debut dodgeball as a demonstration sport at the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA 2026), said its vice-president Datuk Dr Ramlan Abdul Aziz.

He said the dodgeball governing body failed in its bid to include the sport in SUKMA 2024 in Sarawak, which concluded in August.

“Usually, before a sport can be included in any sporting events (such as the SEA Games), it has to be introduced as a demonstration sport to allow others to see it being played first hand. (This will) enable us (MAD) to understand better how to manage it.

“…So, we are working to get this initiative going at the SUKMA level (first) because if we immediately go to the higher level, there won’t be any sustainable development pyramid supporting it,” he told reporters at today’s Turo Thunder Throw 2024 tournament, here.

The Turo Thunder Throw is the first dodgeball tournament held in Malaysia, and its goal is to promote the sport to the people.

Dr Ramlan said that efforts are ongoing to promote dodgeball at the state level and bring the sport to SUKMA 2026.

Earlier, Blitz Steroids defeated Aces 5-4 to win the tournament.
