KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Malaysia is celebrating 70 years of advocating for the rights and welfare of children, marking a significant milestone in its work across the country.

The commemoration will be followed by a series of events aimed at further highlighting UNICEF’s advocacy efforts, said UNICEF Malaysia in a statement.

“One key event is World Children’s Day on Nov 20, which will address critical issues affecting children, including climate change, and provide a platform for children and young people to advocate for their own rights.

"As we celebrate 70 years in Malaysia, we remain committed to addressing the urgent issues affecting children and ensuring their voices are heard," said the statement.

In the lead-up to World Children’s Day, UNICEF will host the Youth Climate Adaptation Forum on Oct 11, empowering young people to take action against climate challenges.

The Regional Social Policy Conference, set for Oct 22-23 in Sarawak, will focus on the importance of investing in children's futures, while the @KitaConnect Forum on Nov 9 will spotlight young leaders championing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Established in 1954, UNICEF solidified its partnership with the Malaysian government in 1964 when Malaysia’s first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman, signed the inaugural Basic Cooperation Agreement.
