KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- The Harimau Malaya squad will face Laos on Nov 14 before heading to India as part of their upcoming Tier 1 international friendly fixtures.

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) announced that the national squad under head coach Pau Marti Vicente will play against Laos in Bangkok, Thailand, before playing in India on Nov 19.

“Laos will serve as the host, but the match will take place in Bangkok, Thailand, at the Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) Stadium. This is due to the Lao National Stadium KM16 in Vientiane, Laos, is being used for the 2026 World Cup Qualifying Round 3 match between DPR Korea and Iran on that date.

“Laos selected Bangkok as the venue because they will subsequently face Thailand, also in Bangkok, for their second match on Nov 17,” FAM stated.

The FAM added that the venue for the 133rd-ranked Harimau Malaya against 125th India will be announced soon.

Malaysia last faced Laos in Group B of the 2022 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Cup, securing a 5-0 victory at Bukit Jalil National Stadium here, while their most recent match against India was on Oct 13, 2023, in the 2023 Merdeka Tournament, where Malaysia won 4-2.

These two friendlies serve as an ideal preparation for Malaysia, who have been drawn in Group A of the 2024 ASEAN Championship beginning in December, alongside defending champions Thailand, as well as Cambodia, Singapore, and Timor-Leste.
