ONLY DREAMS OF PROPHETS ARE CONSIDERED TRUE, BASIS FOR RELIGIOUS RULINGS - NOOH GADOT

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- Chairman of the Muzakarah Committee, National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI) Datuk Dr Nooh Gadut has clarified that only the dreams of prophets and messengers who are infallible (ma'sum) are considered true.

In a statement today, Nooh said that the dreams of prophets and messengers could be a source of legal rulings and serve as religious evidence because they were under the protection of Allah.

"There are three types of dreams for Muslims: the first being inner thoughts, the second being temptation from Satan, and the third being glad tidings from Allah.

"A dream is not considered a source of Islamic law and cannot serve as a basis for determining any Islamic ruling, on whether something is permissible, obligatory, or forbidden," he said.

Nooh explained that the 36th Muzakarah (Conference) of the National Fatwa Committee for Islamic Religious Affairs, held in 1994, discussed the concept of dreams from an Islamic perspective.

The Muzakarah decided that the dreams of prophets and messengers, as revelations that become law, are valid, and dreams of individuals during the time of the Prophet Muhammad, such as seeing the Prophet in a dream being akin to seeing him while awake, were specific to the time when he was alive.

Additionally, the conference determined that Muslims who experienced dreams of the Prophet after his passing, would instead encounter him in the hereafter and benefit from his intercession.

On Monday, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar reportedly said Nooh had been requested to provide clarification to the public regarding the issue of dreams involving Prophet Muhammad.

This followed a viral video in which a political leader claimed to have met the Prophet in his dream.
