KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 (Bernama) -- After a successful debut with 4,371 participants this year, the organiser of the Mamee Monster Fun Run 2024 plans to make it an annual event, to promote a healthier lifestyle.
Ahmad Syukry Ibrahim, the Islamic Affairs & Government Relations director of Mamee-Double Decker (M) Sdn Bhd, who also serves as the project director for the run, expressed confidence in expanding the event in the future, following its successful first edition.
“Alhamdulillah, the response this year has exceeded our expectations. We initially anticipated around 3,000 participants,” he said.
“The overwhelming support we received this year is truly encouraging. We are proud of the strong collaboration with DBKL (Kuala Lumpur City Hall), KBS (Ministry of Youth and Sports), and the Federal Territories Department, all of whom have provided invaluable support. Moving forward, we aim to deliver even more.
Looking ahead, Ahmad Syukry revealed that next year's edition will take place in Melaka, with an extended 10-kilometre (km) running route, and a target participation of 15,000 people.
He mentioned that various exciting activities would be added in future events, including the participation of celebrities and influencers, to make the event even more appealing to different segments of society.
The fun run, which began at 7 am, featured 3km and 5km categories, and was held at Dataran DBKL. Participants from all walks of life joined in, including individuals with disabilities in wheelchairs, and parents pushing strollers.
Among the participants was Ahmad Afiq Shazairil Adri, 20, who suffers from Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS). He was brought by his parents in a wheelchair and was enthusiastic about taking part in the fun run for the first time.
“I’m excited to join because I like the Mamee Monster mascot. I hope to participate again next time,” he said.
Bank employee Rosmahani Razali, 38, said that the vibrant concept of the event was one of the key factors which attracted her. It also aligned with her desire to make running a regular hobby.
“I’ve been eating Mamee Monster snacks since I was a child, so when I heard about the fun run, I was eager to take part,” she shared.
