GEORGE TOWN, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- Over 500 students and lecturers from three public universities participated in the National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2024 northern zone campus tour, held today at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) here.

Organised by the HAWANA Secretariat and carried out by the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) in collaboration with USM's School of Communication, the programme engaged and educated participants on current media topics.

A HAWANA statement said in addition to participants from USM, the event also welcomed students from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP).

"Three knowledge-sharing sessions were conducted, focusing on current media topics such as Mobile Journalism (MoJo), Fact Checking, and a talk titled Klik Dengan Bijak on cyber awareness.

"These sessions guided students on creating impactful media content and emphasised the importance of fact-checking to ensure accurate information and curb the spread of misinformation," the statement read.

Earlier, Bernama chief executive officer and HAWANA 2024 Working Committee chairman Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin presented each of the three public universities with a high-performance computer set and a smart television.

Also present were USM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Seri Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed and Bernama editor-in-chief and HAWANA 2024 project director Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.
