JAKARTA, Nov 15 (Bernama) -- A special photo exhibition showcasing the pivotal ties between Malaysia and China is currently being held in Guangzhou, China to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Running from Nov 13 to Dec 6 at the Sun Yat Sen Library Guangdong, the exhibition is organised by the Consulate General of Malaysia in Guangzhou in partnership with the local government of Guangdong province.

The opening ceremony, held on Friday, gathered around 150 guests, including local government officials, diplomats, and students, to explore the rich cultural connections between the two nations.

Consul General Suraya Pauzi said that the photo exhibition focused on daily life in Malaysia and Guangzhou and was divided into two parts -- a collection of photos from Malaysia and a collection of photos from Guangzhou.

“We chose 50 photos to symbolise every year of our diplomatic relations. The two themes we have are ‘Window into Multicultural Malaysia’ and ‘Guangzhou Snapshots from the Lens of a Newcomer’,” she said in a statement.

Suraya noted that the exhibition serves as a bridge, fostering mutual understanding through images.

“We hope these photos will deepen the people-to-people ties between Malaysia and China, helping us to better understand each other,” she said at the event.

The exhibition features works from the Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA), Padu Photo Agency, and the private collections of professional Malaysian photographers.

The Malaysian silat, a traditional martial art, was performed alongside local Chinese performances as a way to share each other’s culture during the opening ceremony.
