KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22 (Bernama) -- Two Malaysian representatives in the mixed doubles event, Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei and Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin, made it to the semi-finals of the China Masters 2024 tournament in Shenzhen after defeating their respective opponents today in contrasting styles.

The most significant victory was registered by Tang Jie-Ee Wei who showed a resurgence to come from behind and defeat the home pair Guo Xin Wa-Cheng Fang Hui in the action held at the Shenzhen Gymnasium.

In the quarter-finals action, the national pair started on a cautious note and lost the first set 14-21 but the second game saw one of the games most historic comeback when the Malaysian duo fought back from the edge of defeat to force the match into a deciding set.

The Chinese pair were leading the second game 20-12 but Tang Jie-Ee Wei put on a remarkable display to tie the score at 20-20, something that has not been witnessed at such a high level of competition in recent times, before winning 23-21.

The second set victory seemed to have provided a much needed tonic to the national pair when they won the decisive set 21-16 to confirm their place in the semi-finals.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei however, will encounter another tough hurdle in trying to break the monopoly of another Chinese pair from the land of the Great Wall, as they are drawn to meet the tournament’s top seeds and home favourites Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping in the semifinals tomorrow.

Yan Zhe-Dong Ping booked their place in the semis after beating Taiwan’s Yang Po Hsuan-Hu Ling Fang 21-13, 21-13 in straight sets.

Meanwhile, Pang Ron-Su Yin who scored a rather effortless 21-10, 21-16 straight sets victory over Taiwan’s Chen Cheng Kuan-Hsu Yin Hui, will face world number seven pair Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet from Hong Kong in the other semifinal.
