SOUTH KOREA'S LIG NEX1 LAUNCHES MALAYSIAN OFFICE, EYES REGIONAL DEFENCE LEADERSHIP

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 7 (Bernama) -- South Korea’s leading defence company, LIG Nex1, officially launched its Malaysian branch office, here, Friday, underscoring its commitment to support the country in advancing its defence capabilities and fostering regional security.

With six international offices in the United States, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Latin America, Indonesia, and now Malaysia, the company regards its latest branch as a strategic hub for its export activities across Southeast Asia.

Its Chief Executive Officer, Ickhyun Shin told Bernama, that the newly established office here symbolises the company’s commitment to supporting Malaysia’s defence and its vision for a stronger, self-reliant future. 

"Through effective localisation and Industrial Collaboration Programmes (ICP), we aim to strengthen Malaysia's industrial base, generate high-value employment opportunities, and foster local innovation.

"By transferring technology and facilitating local production, we aspire to contribute significantly to the nation's defence capabilities and economic growth, and enhancing regional defence capabilities,” he said.

Also present at the launch were Deputy Chief of the Malaysian Army, Datuk Tengku Muhammad Fauzi Tengku Ibrahim, South Korean Ambassador to Malaysia, Yeo Seung Bae and LIG Nex1 Regional Director Malaysian Office, Osung Lee.

Yeo noted that LIG Nex1's strategic presence here represents more than just the supply of defence hardware, as Malaysia is envisioned as a "launching pad" for expanding defence industry cooperation across Southeast Asia

"This is about fostering strategic, mutually beneficial partnerships. By working closely with local stakeholders, initiatives like LIG Nex1 will share Korea’s wealth of expertise and experience, while boosting local production capabilities, creating jobs and driving mutual growth," he said.

Established in 1976 as Goldstar Precision, LIG Nex1 has grown into one of South Korea’s top defence firms specialising in among others; Precision Guided Munitions (PGM), Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), Electronic Warfare (EW), and Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (C4I)
