JERTIH, Dec 19 (Bernama) -- The funeral of national crafts icon Norhaiza Noordin was held at the Kampung Raja Muslim Cemetery here at 5.15 pm today.
Prior to the burial, Norhaiza's body was brought to the Nasirudin Shah Mosque in Kampung Raja for the funeral prayers.
The late Norhaiza's eldest son, Mohammad Othman, 23, said his father was known for his deep love of wood carving, with his own philosophy and unique motifs.
"My father was a gentle person but serious, especially when it came to carving. May Allah bless him," he said to Bernama after the burial.
Norhaiza died at 6.13 am today at the age of 61 due to heart complications at the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.
Norhaiza is survived by his wife, Che Rohayati Abdullah, 49, and two children, Mohammad Othman and Rabiatul Adawiah, 21.
A native of Besut, he was awarded the National Craft Icon Award in 2022 and was a renowned woodcarving artist who elevated Malaysia’s name to the international stage.
He was also a Fine Woodcarving Master and president of the Malaysian Wood Carving Arts Association (Pengukir).
