KUCHING, Dec 23 (Bernama) -- DRB-HICOM Berhad (DRB-HICOM) has launched the “DRB-HICOM Charity Right Feed-To-Educate Programme”, a corporate responsibility initiative aimed at providing food aid to deserving students and their families from two schools here.
DRB-HICOM in a statement today said that through this initiative, a total of 100 students from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Batu Lintang and SK Siol Kanan in Kuching, would receive monthly food boxes.
“With a value of approximately RM200 per box, these essential groceries and household items will continue to be provided to their families over the course of one year,” the statement said.
DRB-HICOM Chief Communication Officer Cairil Irwan Amir, who spoke at the launching of the programme at SK Siol Kanan recently, said the programme reflected the company’s long-standing focus on promoting better education within its corporate responsibility framework.
He said under the programme, parents or guardians of the children would attend regular meetings with the school to support the students’ educational journey by fulfilling their nutritional needs as well as that of their families, while promoting good school attendance to achieve better academic achievement.
“The DRB-HICOM Charity Right Feed-To-Educate Programme not only aims to provide nutritional support, but will also closely monitor each students’ attendance, academic progress and health status. By involving parents and guardians, our goal is to encourage these students to gain better education by further improving their attendance at school,” Cairil said.
“This programme does not merely involve the distribution of food boxes by DRB-HICOM. It also involves our subsidiaries – Bank Muamalat, through a motivational talk on financial literacy and scam awareness, while PROTON gives the students a glimpse of recent advancements in technology.
“We are hopeful that these sessions will help strengthen their financial literacy and further inspire students in the pursuit of knowledge,” he added.
Present at the launch were Sarawak Education Department Senior Principal Assistant Director (School Management Sector), Sariah Mos; Charity Right’s Head of Fund Management, Zafina Khuzaimah; Charity Right’s Project Manager, Luqman Hakim; SK Siol Kanan Headmistress, Maimunah Ba’ee; SK Batu Lintang’s teaching representative, Wan Hanin Wan Omar; as well as representatives from PROTON and Bank Muamalat Kuching Branch and parents and students of both schools.
In partnership with Charity Right, a food aid non-governmental organisation under Mercy Mission Malaysia, the programme also allowed participating parents access to training sessions and motivational talks aimed at personal and professional development.
This will help in fostering a cohesive environment surrounding the students, placing higher value on education and self-improvement.
Through its subsidiaries’ collaborations, DRB-HICOM will continue with its commitment to creating meaningful social impact through initiatives that support the nation’s education agenda and promote the holistic development of Malaysia’s future generations.
