KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 23 (Bernama) -- Maxis, Malaysia’s leading integrated telco, has awarded scholarships to 16 deserving students under the Maxis Scholarship Programme 2024.
Maxis shared that this year’s programme focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) students, with the aim of combining financial aid with valuable industry exposure.
"The emphasis on STEM education reflects Maxis’ ongoing efforts to advance the nation’s digital agenda. Maxis has always been committed to developing future-ready talent who are ready for tomorrow’s economy.
"This includes cultivating skills and expertise around next generation technologies such as generative artificial intelligence (AI), cloud, data and 5G," it said in a statement today.
Maxis’ Interim Chairman Datuk Hamidah Naziadin and Chief Executive Officer Goh Seow Eng presented the scholarships to the students at a ceremony held recently.
Maxis' Chief People and Transformation Officer Patrick Er said by empowering the youth with the right exposure and opportunities, Malaysia can develop future-ready talents who can succeed as tomorrow’s leaders.
"This is in line with our purpose of connecting people and businesses to a world of possibilities," he was quoted as saying in the statement.
Open to Malaysian students enrolled in public and private universities in Malaysia and Singapore, Maxis received a total of 700 applications this year.
In addition to covering tuition fees and living expenses, the scholarship programme offers internship opportunities, hands-on experience, and guaranteed job placements with Maxis upon graduation.
Maxis has been providing scholarships since 2006 to help students achieve their academic aspirations, with 346 scholarships awarded to date.
