KOTA KINABALU, Jan 4 (Bernama) -- Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd has urged the public, particularly residents in squatter areas, to refrain from illegal electricity connections, which pose serious risks.
The company’s chief operating officer Mohd Yusmanizam Mohd Yusof stressed that such actions endangered not only the perpetrators but also the community living or present in areas where illegal connections were made.
"Illegal and unsafe electricity connections carry safety risks, including fires caused by short circuits and the danger of electrocution," he said in a statement today.
Commenting on an electrocution incident involving a man at Jalan Lorong Kuala Neutron here on Thursday (Jan 2), he said Sabah Electricity's technical team arrived at the location after receiving a report at 11.30 pm.
"Electricity supply to the area was cut off to allow the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department team to carry out the operation to move the victim," he said.
Mohd Yusmanizam added that inspections revealed illegal wiring from a distribution box to the site of the incident, which caused the electrocution.
He said the illegal wiring was removed, and electricity supply to the area was restored.
Sabah Electricity has urged the public to report such incidents through the Sabah Electricity Careline at 15444, 088-515000, or via WhatsApp at 019-8525427.
