LABUAN, Jan 9 (Bernama) -- Brunei's Moksin Jinaidi emerged as the overall gross champion in Labuan’s 9th Senior Men’s Open Golf Championship, delivering a stellar performance with a cumulative score of 160 over the two-day competition.

The two-day tournament from Jan 7-8 took place at the 72-par, nine-hole course of Labuan Golf Club (LGC), drawing 110 seasoned golfers from across Labuan, Sabah, Sarawak, and Brunei in the competition format that celebrated excellence across various age groups, recognizing both gross and nett champions.

Moksin, representing Pantai Mentiri Golf Club, displayed remarkable consistency, carding 79 on the first day and 81 on the second to create a historic milestone by becoming the first golfer from Brunei to claim the title in this Labuan’s sports tourism annual event.

Har Sai Kong from Mount Kinabalu Golf Club clinched the overall nett champion title with a two-day score of 136, reflecting the high level of competitive play.

Other standout performances included Eddy Lim Yin from Kudat Golf Club, who secured the champion title in the 55-66 years old category with a nett score of 142 while Zaini Ajamain from Kinabalu Golf Club dominated the 61-66 years old category with a score of 143 nett.

LGC president Peter Pikul said the championship, a highlight in the LGC’s golf calendar, not only spotlighted top-tier talent but also underscored Labuan's growing reputation as a prime destination for sport tourism.

“The event not only celebrated the prowess of senior golfers but also highlighted Labuan's potential as a hub for sport tourism.

“With its stunning landscapes and well-maintained golf courses, Labuan is poised to attract more sports enthusiasts and tourists, eager to experience the island's unique blend of competition and leisure,” he told Bernama today.
