IPOH, Jan 9 (Bernama) -- A relief centre was opened today at Sekolah Agama Rakyat Padang Serai in Beruas in Manjung to accommodate 15 flood evacuees from the district.
The District Disaster Management Committee, in a statement, said that the evacuees, from four families, were relocated to the centre at 1.30 pm.
“All the evacuees are from Kampung Padang Serai, Kampung Kasi, and Kampung Pengkalan Damar,” it said.
Meanwhile, the Perak Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) reported that the water level of Sungai Bidor, Changkat Jong in Hilir Perak district had reached a warning level of 3.25 m, surpassing the normal level of 2.00 m.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has forecast storms and rain for most districts in Perak, including Perak Tengah, Hilir Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang, and Muallim, this afternoon and tonight.
According to the State Public Works Department, the A175 Jalan Selat-Pulau Pebayan route in Perak Tengah district has been closed to all vehicles due to flooding, with water levels reaching 0.8 m.
Yesterday, Bernama reported that residents of Kampung Kasi had urged the state government and the DID to address the issue of Sungai Beruas becoming shallower, which was believed to be causing frequent flooding in the village.
