SINGAPORE, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- All 18 Vietnamese crew members aboard the sunken Dolphin 18 freighter were rescued by the Hong Kong-registered container vessel Nicolai Maersk, approximately 274 nautical miles southwest of Vung Tau, Vietnam, on Saturday.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said its Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) was alerted by Nicolai Maersk at about 7 am that it had received a distress call from the Vietnamese-registered freighter located within the Singapore Maritime Search and Rescue Region.

The MPA said the MRCC coordinated the search and rescue and immediately issued navigational broadcasts for vessels in the vicinity to keep a lookout and report sightings of the vessel in distress. The agency also alerted its Vietnamese counterparts.

Nicolai Maersk arrived at the scene shortly after and successfully rescued all the crew members from the lifeboats. All rescued crew members were found to be in healthy condition,” it said in a statement.

Nicolai Maersk will be disembarking the rescued crew members at its next port in Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia.
