KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 11 (Bernama) -- The launch of the South Wing Block at KPJ Penang Specialist Hospital (KPJ Penang) today marks a major milestone in KPJ Healthcare Berhad’s mission to improve healthcare access and quality in northern Malaysia and its surrounding regions.
In a statement, KPJ Healthcare Berhad said the new block, launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, reinforces the organisation’s commitment to advancing healthcare infrastructure and introducing cutting-edge technologies, strengthening its leadership in Malaysia’s private healthcare sector.
“KPJ Penang’s expansion aligns with Malaysia’s growing health tourism sector, positioning the hospital as a trusted destination for international patients seeking high-quality care.
“Its advanced facilities, coupled with the Telemedicine Command Service for efficient international patient coordination, enhance its appeal to healthcare travellers and contribute to regional economic growth,” the statement read.
With the expansion, the hospital’s bed capacity has increased from 193 to 319, enabling it to accommodate more patients and streamline operations, ensuring timely and high-quality care for the community.
The new block is equipped with exclusive technologies such as Cryo-7 Cryotherapy Technology, which reduces pain and inflammation during recovery, and advanced Hand Robotic Rehabilitation Services, providing precision-focused therapy to improve mobility and recovery outcomes.
As part of the launch, KPJ Penang introduced the ‘Program Sekolah Angkat,’ adopting SMK Pendidikan Khas Bumbong Lima, a school for students with special needs.
Under the programme, the hospital will sponsor hearing aids, provide free hearing assessments, and offer annual maintenance for hearing devices to support the disabled community.
“This initiative is aligned with KPJ Group’s broader corporate social responsibility goals, with the deaf community as a key focus area for 2025. The programme includes plans to expand sign language training for staff and develop new healthcare-related sign language terms to enhance accessibility,” the statement added.
KPJ Healthcare chairman Tan Sri Dr Ismail Bakar said the launch of the new wing underscores KPJ’s dedication to patient-centric care.
“Through initiatives like the Program Sekolah Angkat, KPJ reaffirms its commitment to making healthcare more inclusive and accessible, while improving communication for the disabled community,” he said.
Since 2003, KPJ Penang has maintained its prestigious Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, reaffirming its adherence to global standards in quality and patient safety.
