BIN SHEN PROUD OF MEN'S DOUBLES PAIRS DESPITE 2025 MALAYSIA OPEN FLOP

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 12 (Bernama) -- Outgoing national men's doubles head coach Tan Bin Shen is pleased with his players’ performance despite them failing to give him the farewell gift he wished for at the 2025 Malaysia Open badminton championships.

Bin Shen, who announced his resignation as the national men's doubles coach on Dec 20, felt that most of the men's doubles shuttlers performed well but were a little unlucky not to have advanced further in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) season-opener at the Axiata Arena here.

"Of course, my target was for one of our pairs to win this tournament, but I am pleased because they did all they could. Although they failed, I think they gave their best.

"Sometimes, we don't achieve all our goals and targets. But that is part of the process we have to go through…,” he said.

He added that, although he won't be with them after this, he hoped that the players would continue to train diligently and put in the hard yards.

In fact, he believes that his replacement, Indonesia's Herry Iman Pierngadi, nicknamed the "Fire Dragon”, is the right man to take on the responsibility of training the doubles players based on his vast experience.

"He used to coach former world number one Kevin (Sanjaya Sukamuljo)-Marcus (Fernaldi Gideon). I think it's good that Malaysia got him to help improve the performance of our doubles pairs,” he said.

Bin Shen, whose contract with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) ends tomorrow following the conclusion of the Malaysia Open, will link up with the Hong Kong national team next month.

Yesterday, BAM announced that Henry would replace Bin Shen as the national men's doubles head coach on a four-year contract from Feb 1.
