KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 (Bernama) -- Festivals like Pongal are a powerful reminder of the values of harmony, mutual respect, and shared traditions that unite the nation, reflecting Malaysia’s strength in its diversity, says Deputy Minister of National Unity, K. Saraswathy.

In a message marking the harvest festival which will be celebrated tomorrow, the deputy minister emphasised the importance of cultural celebrations in fostering unity and inclusivity.

“Pongal is a time of gratitude, renewal, and prosperity—a celebration of our deep connection with nature, hard work, and the blessings of a bountiful harvest.

“It is a time to give thanks for the blessings of a bountiful harvest, to cherish family bonds, and to embrace the spirit of unity and togetherness,” she said in a statement to Bernama.

The deputy minister also wished for the festival to bring happiness, good health, and an abundance of success to all those celebrating.

"May this Pongal bring to all your loved ones happiness, good health, and an abundance of success," she added.

Pongal is a harvest festival celebrated by the Indian community worldwide, including in Malaysia. The festival is a mark of gratitude to the Sun God (Surya) and the Earth (Bhoomi) for a bountiful harvest and prosperity.
