META TO CUT 5 PCT OF WORKFORCE BASED ON PERFORMANCE REVIEWS: REPORTS

15/01/2025 01:41 PM

SAN JOSE (California), Jan 15 (Bernama-dpa) -- Social media giant Meta plans to replace around five per cent of its staff this year, reported German news agency (dpa), citing US media on Tuesday.

As part of the restructuring, employees who receive low performance ratings will be asked to leave sooner, with new hires brought in to fill their positions, Bloomberg and tech blog, The Verge, reported.

Meta, which currently employs around 72,000 people, could see up to 3,600 jobs affected by the cuts, according to figures from Bloomberg, which are based on data from September.

According to the media reports, the performance evaluations are expected to be completed in February.

Meta grew quickly during the COVID-19 pandemic but later cut some 20,000 jobs. In 2023, Zuckerberg declared the company's "year of efficiency", and after the cuts, Meta's profits increased.

This time, however, Zuckerberg said the focus is on ensuring the company has the "strongest talent" and is able to "bring new people in".
