MAIPS DONATES TO ISLAMIC CENTRE IN NAMIBIA

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 18 (Bernama) -- The Majlis Agama Islam and Adat Istiadat Melayu Perlis (MAIPs) have donated NAD 937,145.45 (RM247,800.00) to Namibia’s Windhoek Islamic Centre to assist in uplifting the well-being of the Muslims there.

A mock cheque of the contribution was presented by Charge D Affairs of Malaysia’s High Commission in Namibia Datuk Dr Mohamad Rameez Yahaya to the centre’s board chairperson Salmaan Dhameer Jacobs in a ceremony after the Friday prayers on Jan 17, witnessed by some 500 congregation, including members of the Diplomatic Corps from Indonesia, Algeria, and Ghana.

The High Commission, in a statement, said the contribution will be used to cover the operational costs of the Windhoek Islamic Centre for two years, as well as the provision of the Friday Prayers Soup Kitchen to the needy every Friday at the Centre.

The contribution was made possible by the concurrence of Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who visited Namibia in July 2024, it said.

In his remarks, Jacobs said that the contribution will ensure the Muslim community of about 15,000 people out of the 3 million population, will be able to reap the benefit of uplifting their socio-economic conditions.

He also praised Malaysia and MAIPs for the generous contribution that will enable Muslims in Namibia to better operate and perform their role in the country.

Rameez said the contribution was a testament to the cooperation and collaboration initiated by the High Commission of Malaysia in Windhoek for all Namibians regardless of race, creed, and religion - portraying the Malaysia MADANI philosophy in overseas.

According to the statement, it was made to understand that Windhoek Islamic Centre will name its Boardroom as the Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail Chamber in honour of him.
