GEORGE TOWN, Jan 22 (Bernama) -- The launch of the Northern Heart Hospital (NHH) further strengthens Penang's position in medical tourism and solidifies the state as a leading healthcare hub in Southeast Asia.
NHH, the first and only cardiac and vascular specialist hospital in Penang and the northern region of the peninsula, said it offers a comprehensive range of diagnostic and treatment services for cardiovascular diseases, including heart disease.
"The launch of the hospital is poised to further strengthen the state’s position in medical tourism, an area of growing demand among medical tourists seeking high-quality, affordable treatment.
"Penang has consistently ranked as one of the top destinations for medical tourism in Malaysia, attracting patients from neighbouring countries such as Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand," the hospital said in a statement.
Penang contributes 45 per cent to Malaysia’s medical tourism revenue, with the state leading the sector.
Meanwhile, NHH chief executive officer Kelen Leong said the hospital is committed to address the pressing needs of cardiovascular health in the region and it is dedicated to setting new benchmarks in cardiovascular care.
"Through our unique model where specialists are also partners of the hospital, our goal is to ensure every patient (local or international) receives personalised, high-quality care they can trust," he said.
The hospital was officially launched yesterday by PenangYang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak and attended by NHH chairman Tunku Besar Seri Menanti Tunku Ali Redhauddin Tuanku Mukriz.
NHH is part of Asia OneHealthcare Sdn Bhd (formerly Columbia Asia Healthcare Sdn Bhd), a network providing comprehensive healthcare services, including secondary, tertiary, quaternary, and super-specialty care across Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
Since its soft opening in June 2024, NHH has served approximately over 14,000 patients to date.
