TEAM VAYU OF THAILAND CREATE WAVES ON DAY TWO OF RLIR 2025

22/01/2025 10:10 PM

LANGKAWI, Jan 22 (Bernama) -- Team Vayu of Thailand made up for yesterday's no-show by storming to two first-place finishes on the second day of the Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) 2025 today.

The Kevin Whitcraft-skippered Vayu, which failed to start all three Racing class races yesterday due to technical glitches, are in third place overall after five races, with 12 penalty points.

Malaysia's The Next Factor retained the top spot with five penalty points, followed by Team Blitz of Hong Kong (nine penalty points). Malaysia's ATM Sailing Team is in last place with 13 penalty points.

The Next Factor skipper Rolf Heemskerk said although they could only finish fourth and fifth in the two races today, the team is still ahead overall and he is confident they can make amends in the remaining races.

Meanwhile, in the IRC 1 class, team Char Chan of Japan maintained the top spot with four penalty points, followed by team Mata Hari of Malaysia second with seven penalty points and Team Jolt of Singapore third with 12 penalty points.

The five-day RLIR 2025, organised by the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club (RLYC), features six classes: Racing, IRC 1, IRC 2, Sportsboat, Multihull and Club.
