SARAWAK FLOODS: 123 EVACUATED AS OF 9 PM

KUCHING, Jan 24 (Bernama) -- The number of evacuees seeking shelter in temporary relief centres in Sarawak due to flooding has risen to 123 tonight, up from 100 reported earlier this morning.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat, as of 9 pm, two active relief centres remain operational in the state - one in Saratok and another in Tatau.

The Dewan Rumah Dayak relief centre in Saratok, which has been open since Jan 19, is currently sheltering 90 people from 21 families. Meanwhile, the Rumah Steven relief centre in Tatau, which started operating yesterday, is housing 33 individuals from 13 families.

The JPBN also said that 20 flood-prone areas across the state are being closely monitored by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM).
