SHAH ALAM, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government is targeting about 30,000 visitors for the Selangor Cultural Village Carnival 2025, a five-day event that began on Jan 22.
State Housing and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said an estimated 20,000 visitors had attended as of Jan 24. This inaugural carnival is part of the state’s efforts to boost the Visit Selangor Year 2025 campaign.
"I am confident we will meet the target, as the numbers for today (Jan 25) and tomorrow have yet to be included,” he told reporters following the launch of the event by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam yesterday.
Borhan also shared the state government’s plans to expand the carnival to other districts to further strengthen Selangor’s cultural heritage.
“This initiative aims to showcase our unique culture in other districts, encouraging tourists to visit and experience the vibrant traditions of Selangor’s multiracial community,” he said.
The carnival which runs from Jan 22 until today, features a variety of activities, including cultural performances, handicraft exhibitions, workshops, and traditional food stalls at Pasar Saloma.
The event also highlights traditional game competitions, such as gasing pangkah (spinning tops), tali getah (rubber band games), dam gergasi (giant checkers), congkak, batu seremban, and terompah gergasi (giant clogs).
