KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28 (Bernama) -- Reigning 2024 World Junior Champions, Aaron Tai-Kang Khai Xing, advanced to the second round of the Thailand Masters after defeating the host pair, Pongsakorn Thongkham-Wongsathorn Thongkham, today.
In the match held at Nimibutr Arena, Bangkok, Aaron-Khai Xing secured a straight-sets victory, 21-16, 21-18, in 31 minutes.
The world number 58 pair will face Indonesia’s Muhammad Shohibul Fikri-Daniel Marthin, who triumphed over India’s K. Viraj-K. Viplav 21-13, 21-10, for a spot in the quarterfinals.
Also advancing to the second round is Malaysian professional player Goh V Shem, partnering with South Korea’s Choi Sol Gyu.
V Shem-Sol Gyu had little trouble defeating Malaysia’s Goh Boon Zhe-Wong Vin Sean 21-16, 21-18 in a 29-minute match. They are set to face Indonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnando-Bagas Maulana in the second round on Thursday.
Earlier, Leo-Bagas progressed after defeating Malaysian professionals Chia Wei Jie-Lwi Sheng Hao 21-15, 21-12.
Meanwhile, Malaysia’s young women’s doubles pair Ong Xin Tee-Carmen Ting advanced to the second round after defeating India’s S. Kavipriya-S. Simran 21-17, 21-14.
Ong-Carmen will face the winners of the first-round clash between Taiwan’s Lin Xiao Min-Wang Yu Qiao and Thailand’s Natchananpon Roongpiboonsopit-Sirada Roongpiboonsopit, scheduled for tomorrow.
The first round also saw Malaysia’s professional men’s doubles pair, Low Hang Yee-Ng Eng Chong, eliminated after a 21-17, 21-19 loss to Thailand’s Chaloempon Charoenkitamorn-Worrapol Thongsa Nga.
