KANGAR, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- The Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail Islamic Centre in Ibadan, Nigeria, built with a contribution from the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) in July last year, is now fully completed and opened last Friday.
In a statement today, MAIPs said the centre is set to become a key hub for religious and welfare activities in the area, with various programmes planned, including religious outreach (dakwah), syariah courses for imams and preachers, Ramadan programmes, and Quran distribution.
“The local community has warmly welcomed the establishment of this centre and hopes it will continue to grow as a beacon for spreading the true teachings of Islam. It is also expected to serve as a catalyst for strengthening Islamic unity in the surrounding area,” the statement read.
The centre held its first Friday prayers last week, with the sermon delivered by Dr Abdulrasheed Olatunji, a lecturer at Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail (UniSIRAJ).
The construction was made possible through an RM200,000 contribution from MAIPs, presented by the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is also MAIPs president. He was accompanied by his son, Syed Sirajuddin Areeb Putra Al-Haj Jamalullail, during the handover at the Malaysian High Commission Office in Abuja, Nigeria, on July 27, 2024.
The donation was received by the Ibadan-based Al Mawaddah Charity Foundation, with its chairman, Dr Abdulrasheed Olatunji, and deputy chairman, Alhaj Ridwan, representing the organisation.
