GEORGE TOWN, Feb 16 (Bernama) -- Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow is leading Penang’s investment promotion mission to Japan from Feb 16-22 to renew ties and forge relations with the corporate headquarters of Japanese investors in the state.

Organised by InvestPenang, the state investment promotion agency, the mission also aims to encourage the expansion of the investors’ sites in Penang and attract new investments, the Penang Chief Minister’s Office said in a statement today.

“Additionally, the mission seeks to update Japanese companies on the latest developments and opportunities available in Penang, including information on recent advancements in infrastructure and policy changes to facilitate investment.

“By enhancing Penang’s visibility as a prime investment destination, the mission also targets potential investors in the electrical and electronics, semiconductor, equipment and medical devices industries,” it said.

During the visit, Chow and the delegates will participate in a series of meetings and site visits with the corporate headquarters of Japanese investors in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Kumamoto.

According to the statement, InvestPenang is also participating as one of the exhibitors in the Kumamoto Industrial Revitalisation Expo on Feb 20-21 in Kumamoto, which is a hub for the Japanese semiconductor industry.

Kumamoto is often referred to as the ‘Silicon Island’ due to its growing semiconductor industry concentration.

“This mission is a valuable opportunity to showcase Penang's strengths, innovations, and commitment to being a resilient and sustainable investment location,” it said.

Dubbed as the “Silicon Valley of the East”, Penang attracted investments totalling RM31.38 billion in 2024.
