KUCHING, Feb 16 (Bernama) -- The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu’s (PBB) 16th General Assembly which concluded today did not discuss any preparation to face the upcoming Sarawak state election which is due by next year.
PBB Deputy President and Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the assembly, instead, had resolved to propose the formation of a council to be known as “Majlis Yang Dipertua” or Presidential Council as a mechanism to speed up the decision-making process on the direction of the party.
“Nobody was talking about the (upcoming state) election (at the assembly). We just work for the rakyat lah,” he said when met by reporters after attending the winding-up session of the assembly, graced by PBB President and Sarawak Premier, Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg here.
According to him, the proposed council would comprise the party’s Yang Dipertua (President), his two deputies, two Senior Vice-Presidents and the Secretary-General, where their role would be to discuss urgently on any matter that concerned the party’s direction and policies.
Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is the party’s current president with Uggah and another State Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan as Deputy Presidents, while Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and State Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Minister, Datuk Seri Stephen Rundi Utom as Senior Vice-Presidents.
Works Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi is the party’s Secretary-General.
“It is a small committee, when an issue need to be discussed urgently, it will be easier because calling for the party’s supreme council meeting (MKT) may take some time,” Uggah said.
He said the formation of the council, once approved by the Registrar of Societies to be included in the party’s constitution, would come as another layer of decision making body in PBB, after its general assembly and supreme council.
“The MKT is still an important part of the party. Majlis YDP is to speed up our ability to make decision in the face of certain issues which need to be decided as fast as possible. This is a big organisation in PBB because we have another layer of authority, apart from the General Assembly and MKT,” he said.
