TELUK INTAN, Feb 18 (Bernama) -- Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah today graced the opening of the new building of the Inland Revenue Board (IRB), Menara HASiL, here.
Raja Muda of Perak Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa and Raja Di Hilir Perak Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain Sultan Idris Shah were in attendance.
Also present were Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying and IRB chief executive officer LHDN Datuk Dr Abu Tariq Jamaluddin.
In his opening speech, Lim said the state government had recorded excellent achievements, with the highest revenue collection in history of RM1.322 billion in 2024.
He said Perak also received the Auditor General's certificate without reprimand for the state’s 2023 financial statement, thus strengthening Perak's position among the five best states in terms of financial governance.
“This year, the government has set a direct tax target of RM 200.8 billion, which will contribute to almost 50 per cent of the federal government's total revenue.
“This figure shows that funds from direct tax sources are the heart of the country’s continued development and prosperity,” he said.
Meanwhile, Abu Tariq, in his speech, said the three-storey building was built on a 10-acre (4.046 ha) land with a construction contract value of RM26.3 million and is equipped with various facilities, including a multipurpose hall, meeting rooms, cafeteria and spacious and comfortable workspace.
“Counters with a modern, contemporary design are also available for the comfort and convenience of the taxpayers in Perak, especially around Teluk Intan, as well as the vulnerable and underprivileged groups receiving government’s aid such as the Rahmah Cash Aid (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) aid managed by the IRB,” he said.
Abu Tariq also said that the Perak IRB had successfully achieved the targetted direct tax collection of RM3.634 billion last year, which is 7.75 per cent higher than 2023.
